I am unable to convert several mpg files. I am running the Flix Engine on Windows Server 2003. Windows Media Player 10 and Quicktime (latest version) are installed. The error is 61209.

As a test, I installed the Flix Engine on my desktop computer running Windows XP SP2, also with Windows Media Player 10 and Quicktime, and my encoder process successfully encodes the files. On my machine, I have no additional codec's installed.

Can someone help me to understand why it will convert under Windows XP Professional and not under Windows 2003 Server Standard.

The videos CAN play on the server with Win2k3 installed.

I also tried installing and configuring ffdshow on the server, but that did not resolve the issue.

If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Thanks

I've run a number of additional tests and found the following:

Using the c# sample DOES convert the files I'm having issues with.

Building a new c# sample using the code from my conversion program DOES convert the files.

My original program still will not convert. The Flix engine reports the folloing:
On2 Technologies Flix couldn't find a suitable importer for the source file.
Perhaps the file is not a media file, corrupt or the
required drivers for this format are not installed.

The only difference is my original program runs as a Windows Service and the samples run as console applications. I've changed the login for the Service to run under the same account that I was logged in as when they successfully converted using the console programs. This account is a domain account with full administrative privileges on the machine, but they still will not convert.

Looking for suggestions.

FYI..i spoke with jschaf01 and found this issue was resolved by inserting a sound card into the server machine. it appears as though when running the conversion as a process on windows server 2003 on certain files (for me all mpeg) the machine needs to initialise a sound card..
